Next Comp on Sunday 21st August will be at Plomer (due to the Aussie Titles). Swell is predicted so the point will hopefully be working....if you are interested in going in a log/old mal/single fin heat bring one along, if you have one. Some of us will be camping overnight at Plomer.

The annual Plomer Challenge is on 30th July. Meet at Town beach at 7am for a 7.30 start.Plomer expect to be able to field 24 to 30 surfers, so we need to match them. The heat draw will be held at the Bluewater Bar 5.30pm FRIDAY 29th July.

We will text or ring those in the first few heats. Finger food, Pizzas and some drinks will be provided for the Presentation on Saturday night at the Bluewater bar, starting at 5.00pm

Floods couldn’t stop them, volcanic ash couldn’t stop them, lack of swell couldn’t stop them. Local lurking Tiger Sharks almost did, but the hardy few who made the trek to Point Plomer for the postponed June Comp were rewarded with good waves on the back beach despite the lake-like conditions at Plomer. For those of us vertically challenged, some of the sets were overhead.

El Presidente declared “No Legropes” and lived to regret it, not so much from the threat of the tiger sharks, but from the effort of two swims in the first heat. Thankfully as we didn’t have a defibrillator with us, he later joined the sooks who needed their umbilical cords.

After everyone met at the camp grounds and got organized we kicked off with a brekkie to fuel up for a day of competition, and a good way to ensure we did'nt have to carry any back was to finish the food for lunch. Thanks to Masterchef contestants Paul and Joe, shame about the plateing up, though.

Bernie qualified for the next ironman series with a marathon two hour trip from Port towing the trailer and gear up, with the obligatory “Äre we there yet?”from his son Zane. Thanks Bernie

Deanie and Kurt (reminds me of a movie...?) showed their comedic stylings with some creative nicknames on the scoreboard, although Hollywood seemed a tad gruntled by his. Check it out CLICK HERE

Contest Director Hoppo has rejigged the day’s results to ensure consistency with the full year’s results, as both grades were combined for the comp.

Also a reminder that conditions permitting the club has been asked to participate in a paddle out at 8AM Sunday 15 August when the ashes of Kim Windon (club member Mark Windons wife and Brett Martin's sister) will be scattered near Flaggies.

This will be just prior to the start of the Australian Longboard Titles so you will need to be suited up and ready by 8am.

2010 PLOMER CHALLENGE
Saturday 3 July –Pt Plomer

Its on again -Joe Doust will need to let the Plomer club know numbers after our next meeting (20th June) So let him know if you are coming up.

If you are intending to camp at Plomer on Saturday night the Plomer club will have: Prawns/Oysters, a steak/sausage roll/sandwich with coleslaw and mudcake for desert…plus 4 beers.

Cost of this is $20 and that includes an entry fee of $5, so great value.

Results of the March competition: In what could best be described as testing conditions surfers made the best of what was on offer. A grade was taken out by 'Mr Cool' Troy White with Craif Munro in second followed by Rene Koucis and Greg Agnew.

B grade was won by Geoff Branch with Bernie Smart and Phil Hancock taking out the minor placings.

Winners of both grades were presented with vouchers from one of our sponsors - Sandy Feet Surfshop at North Haven.

The next contest is on 18 April.

Last weekend saw 20 keen members of Port Macquarie Longboard club travel to Scotts Head for the 25th annual Logger Head competition. The waves were very small this year which made the competition to catch a good wave even harder. Many of the clubs members progressed through the heats to semi finals. However only two members made it into a final being Troy White who finished 2nd in the over 35s and Chris Armstrong who finished 6th in the Mystery section.

All enjoyed the weekend with some members bringing their family along. All have vowed to return next year with hopefully bigger waves on offer. All members and anyone who is interested in joining the club is advised to attend our next club day on Sunday 19/7/09 meeting 7am at Town Beach headland.

This year's Port Macquarie Longboard Club's championship title race is now shaping up as one of the toughest in the club's history. A fresh injection of surfers have thrown down the gauntlet to the club's established stars with their eye catching performances on the weekend. The A grade final at "Chickens" featured some great surfing. New club member Jim Moulston used a more aggressive approach to tame the mostly closing out onshore waves at Town Beach.
The 42 year old feels more at home on his short board and is still learning the subtle art of longboard surfing.
But his sharp turns and off the lip manoeuvres enabled him to come out on top on the day. Not far behind him were Craig Munro and Wayne Dean who also took a liking to the waves and used a more go-for-it approach to fill the minor places. Dave McLaughlin also did very well to place fourth in the final.
Surf conditions were pretty poor for the March contest. They were certainly not made for the classical longboard style of walking the board and nose riding. Also the ocean had turned quite chilly which had many competitors hastily reaching for their wetsuits after the recent balmy 21 degree water temperatures . The conditions kept many members away with only 28 competitors turning up on the day but that didn't stop everyone having a great time. Publicity shy B grade final winner Bernie Smart played down his victory saying he "likes to fly under the radar". The 53 year old defeated runner-up Phil Hancock with Geoff Williams coming in third. The day ran very smoothly with everyone pitching in to help out. The fourth club contest of the year is set down for Sunday April 19.
